Upon purchasing this charming house located in a heritage district of Charlottetown, the homeowner wished to make it feel like her own. A mixed stand of native and adaptive trees, shrubs, perennials and evergreen hedging were proposed to add more privacy from neighbouring properties and provide more shade in the back garden. Intimate dining and cozy lounge areas were designed to increase the amount of livable outdoor space. A pergola was recommended in the back to provide more immediate shade until the proposed plantings become established. The pergola is partially enclosed by a raised planter that serves as a kitchen garden. Lastly, a new deck and small seating area were designed in the front garden, substantially increasing use of this space, taking advantage of ample shade provided by the existing mature street tree, and providing a boost in curb appeal.

Construction of the front deck was completed in the summer of 2019 by Robin Stevenson Custom Carpentry.
