North Shore Cenotaph

Existing planting surrounding the cenotaph had become overgrown and was encroaching on the monument. The new planting design offers a more open and inviting view and integrates a seating area. The planting beds take the form of arcs reminiscent of sunrise and sunset, inspired from an engraving on the cenotaph that reads, “At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them.” An important consideration in this design was choosing plant material that would provide interest in late fall during the Remembrance Day ceremonies.
